Hazboy posted a photo: Yesterday I was in both Dallas and Fort Worth, and this morning I was in Austin. Now it was time to go up Interstate 35 North to Waco, home of Baylor University. Waco is pretty much known for two things. One is the home to the main campus of Baylor University, and the other is for the events that surrrounded cult leader David Koresh. On February 28, 1993, there was a shoot out in which six cult members of the Branch Davidians and four agents of the United States Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF) died. After 51 days on April 19, 1993 a standoff between FBI agents and Branch Davidians ended in a fire that destroyed their compound located in Mt. Carmel, near Waco. Seventy-four people, including leader David Koresh, died in the blaze.

Hazboy posted a photo: Somewhere between Austin and Waco I passed this sign. I love highway signs….especially the ones that use the state within the sign. No sure where this goes, but I know you can go east from here….

Hazboy posted a photo: I figured this place would be the DisneyWorld of processed meats judging from the bold lettering of the sign. I passed it about 5 minutes ahead and almost missed it while driving on I-35 heading north toward Waco. (By the way, I prefer the “faux” jerky….)

This sign was bigger than the actual store that I passed a few miles ahead

Hazboy posted a photo: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. Joe had a great game, filling in for starting running back Malcolm Brown. Joe rushed for 191 yards and scored three touchdowns in the Longhorns 52-20 win in Austin over Texas Tech.

Hazboy posted a photo: Smokey the Cannon is an artillery piece used as part of the pageantry of college football games of The University of Texas Longhorns. Smokey is operated and cared for by the Texas Cowboys, a University student organization. Smokey is fired each time the Longhorns score, at every kick-off, and at the end of each quarter. The cannon is present for all home games. The original cannon, Smokey I, was constructed at the University’s mechanical engineering lab in 1953, in response to shotgun blasts often heard at the Red River Shootout — the annual Texas-Oklahoma football game. Smokey I was modified in 1955 to shoot twin 10-gauge shotgun shells. This revision was renamed Smokey II. The current version of the cannon, Smokey III, weighs 1,200 pounds and fires up to four blank 10-gauge shells at a time. The cannon was built in 1988 by Lupton Machinery of Austin out of the trunk of an oak tree

Hazboy posted a photo: It was a rough day for Seth and the rest of his Red Raiders team. Tech got their bell rung by the Texas Longhorns 52-20 in Austin. I’m sure it was a long quiet trip back to Lubbock in the Texas Panhandle for the Red Raiders.
