We’ve reached the season’s conclusion, and with it, the Big 12 has only one Heisman finalist among the five that will go to New York this week for Saturday’s announcement. 1. Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor Last week: 15-22, 320 yards, 2 TD, INT. 12 carries, 32 yards, 2 TD in a 48-24 win over Texas. Making the case for Griffin III: RG3 bounced back from concussion-like symptoms against Texas Tech last week to lead the Bears to a win over Texas for a second consecutive season.

Robert Griffin III might not win the Heisman Trophy. If he falls short, it won’t be because of the Baylor quarterback’s performance against Texas on Saturday.

Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is “probable” to play next week at home against Texas, school officials said Sunday. Griffin suffered a concussion in Saturday’s 66-24 win over Texas Tech after being hit as he slid near the end of the second quarter. The defender’s shoulder and forearm hit Griffin’s head and bounced it off the turf at Cowboys Stadium. Griffin returned after being attended to by trainers, running for a three-yard touchdown, but he did not play after halftime.

So, how do you want to do this? We can crack it any which way. Most valuable player? Best overall player? Through the first half of the season, Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III has been all of the above. Baylor’s suffered two losses this season, which, fair or not, hurts Griffin’s Heisman chances. Everything else, though? Try to find one negative from Griffin’s first half. You’ll be looking awhile. Passer rating? Griffin’s mark of 205.13 is still on track for an NCAA record, behind only Wisconsin’s Russell Wilson . The nearest Big 12 competitor? All the way down below 158, where Kansas’ Jordan Webb , Oklahoma State’s Brandon Weeden and Oklahoma’s Landry Jones are Nos. 16,17 and 18 in the national ranking. His 22 touchdown passes are the most of any quarterback in the nation, one more than Boise State’s Kellen Moore

Baylor’s own RG3 is holding down the No. 1 spot in the Big 12 among Heisman contenders after continuing his tear against Rice, despite the best efforts of one enterprising assistant coach. More on Griffin later today. Let’s take a look at how the Big 12’s Heisman candidates might look if voting took place today. 1. Robert Griffin III , QB, Baylor Last week: 29-33, 338 yards, 5 TD in a 56-31 win over Rice. Making the case for Griffin: Griffin is continuing his tear through nonconference play with his second consecutive game with more touchdowns than incompletions. Nobody in the Big 12 is playing better right now, but another test awaits this week with a road game at Kansas State and the Wildcats much-improved defense from a year ago. 2. Landry Jones , QB, Oklahoma Last week: 35-48, 448 yards, 3 TDs in a 38-28 win over Missouri. Making the case for Jones: Jones’ team around him gives him the best chance for longevity in this race, but he hasn’t been as good as Griffin so far this year. The Sooners wrap up nonconference play this week with what should be a laugher against Ball State in Norman on Saturday before facing off against Texas in the Cotton Bowl next week. 3. Brandon Weeden , QB, Oklahoma State Last week: 47-60, 438 yards, 2 TDs in a 30-29 win over Texas A&M. Making the case for Weeden: About those interceptions…you were saying? Weeden threw six in his first three games, but when the Cowboys needed him to be sharp, he was. He had no turnovers and was the biggest force behind OSU’s second-half comeback in College Station.

Here’s our weekly look at the Big 12’s top hopes for the Heisman. 1. Landry Jones , QB, Oklahoma Last week: 35-47, 375 yards, touchdown in a 47-14 win over Tulsa. Making the case for Jones: Jones was the league’s frontrunner entering the season and somewhat of a co-favorite with Stanford’s Andrew Luck . He did nothing to change that perception in a quality outing to kick off the season against the Golden Hurricane. 2
