Baylor hosted a pretty raucous celebration on Saturday night when quarterback Robert Griffin III won the Heisman, and they’ll get a couple more chances to celebrate with RG3 later this week. On Wednesday, he’ll be honored at halftime of the men’s basketball game against Bethune-Cookman. Tickets? Well, they’re $3, of course, in honor of the man of the night. Thursday, Griffin will receive a key to his hometown, Copperas Cove, Texas. Halftime of the basketball game will kick off with a highlight video before RG3 makes his entrance with the school’s first Heisman Trophy.

It’s been awhile since I’ve heard Heisman chants ringing down from a stadium in Texas with such passion.

Robert Griffin III might not win the Heisman Trophy. If he falls short, it won’t be because of the Baylor quarterback’s performance against Texas on Saturday.

WACO, Texas — In the end, the Heisman chant went up. It wasn’t strong. Or really that organized. And that was just as well. Everyone around Floyd Casey already knew that college football’s top individual honor should belong to Robert Griffin III. Besides, it’s not like Baptists to brag. Well, now after decades being the sideshow dancing Bears of college football, the Baylor Bears finally have something to brag about: RG3. The junior finished up his campaign in his typical explosive fashion, 320 yards, touchdown passes of 59 and 39, touchdown runs of 10 and two, and a 48-24 win over what used to be the state’s, shoot maybe even one of college football’s, bell-cow program, Texas.

END OF THE FIRST QUARTER. It’s Baylor 14, Texas 7. Baylor quarterback Robert Griffin III is making a nice Heisman Trophy statement, leading the Bears to two quick-strike touchdowns in the first quarter: a 59-yard pass to Kendall Wright

The Longhorns already have put it out there that Robert Griffin III won’t have his Heisman Trophy-defining moment against Texas on Saturday.

Not much movement in this week’s race. Two candidates were inactive, and no top players struggled. Alas, here are the Big 12 players with the best shot to win the Heisman. Only the top two candidates are realistic ones, and both look likely to earn trips to New York if they win on Saturday and play well. If we’ve learned one thing this year, it’s that no matter how hard we try, we really can’t project what’s coming in this game. 1. Robert Griffin III, QB, Baylor Last week: 7-11, 106 yards, TD, 14 carries, 62 yards, 2 TD in 66-24 win over Texas Tech.
