Rodney McGruder made sure of it with a career-high 33 points, as the Wildcats held on to win, 84-80. McGruder kept the Wildcats above water early, scoring 13 of their first 26 points. He’s really stepping up at home. In three conference games in Manhattan, McGruder is averaging 27.7 PPG with a 62.5 field goal percentage.

With a slate of mostly underwhelming matchups, the most intriguing tilt of the evening involves the same two schools that squared off in the BCS title game. It may not be as convincing as Monday’s 21-0 win, but the guess here is that Alabama will get past LSU on the hardwood, too.

Alabama was ranked as high as No. 12 earlier this season before a trio of mid-December losses (to Georgetown, Dayton and Kansas State) evoked some doubts.

How the game was won: Neither team brought its A game, but Arkansas’ defense played one of its best games of the season and the Kansas State offense didn’t do enough to chase down the Hogs, who jumped out to a 19-0 second-quarter lead, and a late third-quarter score helped put the game out of reach before Kansas State’s Anthony Cantele missed a 43-yard kick with 6:36 to play.
