Post-signing day Big 12 Power Rankings

Signing day has come and gone. NFL decisions have been made. Coaching staffs — the major moves, at least — have been settled. The league membership looks close to being settled. With all that stuff behind us, it’s time to update our Big 12 Power Rankings with spring football quickly approaching. I mentioned this in our last update, but I’ll reiterate just how wide open the Big 12 is going to be in 2012. That won’t change for a while. In 2011, the league only had three teams that could realistically win the Big 12: Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas A&M.

Cowboys’ lone ESPNU 150 signee is official

Oklahoma State has avoided any major surprises on Wednesday, but got welcome news when its top recruit, Dominic Ramacher, faxed in his letter of intent just before 9 a.m. local time, the school announced. Ramacher is the nation’s No. 3 tight end and No. 126 on the ESPNU 150. The Denton (Texas) Guyer star joins two of his former teammates as highly-recruited stars to make the move from Denton to Stillwater. Quarterback J.W. Walsh and receiver Josh Stewart just finished their freshman seasons for the Cowboys, who won the Big 12 title.

Welp, this is it. The college football season is over, and two teams have closed up shop in the Big 12. This will be Texas A&M and Missouri’s last time to make an appearance in the Big 12 Power Rankings. After 14 weeks of the regular season and eight bowl games (the Big 12 went 6-2), here’s how the league sits. 1. Oklahoma State (12-1, beat Stanford, 41-38 in overtime): The Cowboys needed some help from Stanford’s kicker to get its BCS win, but their spot atop the Big 12 was never at stake.

This is all a little new for Oklahoma State. A BCS game? Carrying the Big 12 banner as league champs? Playing on the big stage while big brother Oklahoma puts its season to bed early in the nearby Insight Bowl? Their reward? A matchup with No. 4 Stanford, who Oklahoma State defensive coordinator Bill Young says has “probably the best offensive line we’ve seen in the three years I’ve been here.” The offense shows it. Lacking in speedy weapons, Stanford plays a physical brand of football rarely found in the Big 12, outside of perhaps Austin, Texas, and Manhattan, Kansas.
