It was far from perfect. It was far from prompt. But Oklahoma State finally got to take the field against Tulsa and turned in what’s become an average performance for the offense in a 59-33 win over the Golden Hurricane after a three-hour delay. The numbers for Oklahoma State’s defense were good. G.J. Kinne missed most of the game and Tulsa’s passers combined to complete just 8 of 26 passes for 117 yards and four interceptions. The Golden Hurricane stayed committed to a running game, despite the deficit and broke touchdown runs of 42 and 80 yards. Tulsa finished with 365 yards rushing and had two rushers top 150 yards. The point total wasn’t pretty, either. The Cowboys, perhaps a bit groggy or uninterested with a big lead, had their defensive dominance in the passing game interrupted by moments of weakness defending the run. The result: big plays. Oklahoma State can afford those in games like this. Next week, it won’t. The defense has work to do, but has definitely shown the potential to be great. The problem is being great for 60 minutes. OSU hasn’t done it yet. To win next week at Texas A&M, that will have to change. Oklahoma State receiver Justin Blackmon ’s streak of 14 consecutive 100-yard receiving games came to an end tonight, too. It was fun while it lasted, but he’s still an OK player. On a final note, it is 3:36 a.m. in Dallas, and the Big 12’s week of football wrapped up minutes ago. I can’t believe this happened.
