1. WOULD BROWN, BERGERON REBOOT THE RUN GAME? No. The injuries to Texas’ top three tailbacks caused the running game to fall from the Big 12’s best to the Big 12’s third-best over the final four games, and even though they returned Wednesday, they combined for 44 yards on 16 carries.

Freshman tailback Malcolm Brown, who was on pace to become Texas’ first 1,000-yard rusher since 2007 before missing four of the final five games with a hamstring injury, was the runaway choice for the Big 12’s offensive newcomer of the year on The Associated Press’ All-Big 12 Team.

Question: If Texas’ offense doesn’t come to life on that fateful final drive, and if the Aggies take care of business and get the last laugh in the final chapter of a century-old rivalry, does Mike Sherman return in 2012? Yes, he does. The Aggies didn’t. Sherman won’t. It’s a knee-jerk reaction to a frustrating problem that might work out in the long term. But in the short term, it’s unfair to the man who helped revive a program that began to struggle toward the close of the R.
