With all Virginia Tech accomplished this season — an 11-game winning streak, an undefeated ride through the conference schedule — it would seem as if the Hokies don’t have anything left to prove. Their 9-14 bowl record says otherwise. Virginia Tech’s matchup against No. 4 Stanford in the Discover Orange Bowl is an open invitation for the Hokies to prove they can beat a ranked opponent in a BCS bowl. Dominating the ACC year in and year out is one thing, but beating ranked opponents not named Cincinnati anywhere besides Blacksburg is another. Over the past decade, Virginia Tech has made strides in reversing that losing bowl record, and it can take another step forward this year by beating Stanford.
