Kansas forward Thomas Robinson still sits atop my Wooden Award ballot. But this time, the decision wasn’t as easy. A banner week by West Virginia’s Kevin Jones and Kentucky’s Anthony Davis, along with continued steady play by Creighton’s Doug McDermott, has tightened up the race. As the weeks progress, Robinson will find out that staying at the top is just as hard as getting there. Here’s how I’d vote if the ballot were due today: Thomas Robinson, Kansas — The Jayhawks’ star forward clicked the “ON” switch in the second half of the KU’s 64-54 come-from-behind victory over Texas A&M.

WACO, Texas — Here are some quick thoughts from Missouri’s 89-88 victory over Baylor Saturday at the Ferrell Center. Overview: Marcus Denmon’s free throw with four seconds remaining proved to be the difference in No. 5 Missouri’s victory over third-ranked Baylor. Denmon’s foul shot gave the Tigers an 89-85 lead. A 3-pointer by Baylor’s Brady Heslip at the buzzer didn’t matter. Ricardo Ratliffe scored 27 points for Missouri, which led by as many as 12 points late in the second half before Baylor made a run late in the game.

The win was expected. Texas was the ranked team, the favored team, the more athletic team. So a 21-10 Longhorn victory over Cal in Wednesday’s Holiday Bowl could have been predicted.

BYU COUGARS Record: 9-3 It is hard to really measure this season for BYU. Another 10-win season would certainly make it a success, considering that would make the Cougars one of just six FBS schools with 10 or more wins in five of the past six seasons. In Year 1 as an independent, everybody at BYU will take that. But a closer look at the schedule reveals the Cougars have one victory over a team with a winning record. In the “big games” against three bowl teams — Texas, Utah and TCU — they went 0-3.
